Are you passionate about sustainability and eager to apply your technical skills to make a real impact? ReFlow, a leading environmental engineering firm, seeks a motivated and talented Sustainability Data Scientist to join our team for the summer of 2024.

At ReFlow, we specialize in lifecycle assessment (LCA) and corporate GHG emissions consultancy, delivering transparent and traceable data to clients across the maritime, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors. As pioneers in vessel LCA, we are at the forefront of integrating scientific approaches into practical solutions.

 

Educational Background:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field. A focus on sustainability or lifecycle assessment would be advantageous.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Programming: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R. Familiarity with other languages like Java or C++ is a plus.
  • Data Handling: Experience with databases, particularly the ecoinvent database, and the ability to manage and manipulate large datasets.
  • Lifecycle Assessment Tools: Understanding of LCA software and tools (e.g., SimaPro, openLCA).
  • Algorithm Development: Knowledge of algorithm design and implementation. Experience with machine learning algorithms is beneficial but not essential.
  • API Integration: Experience in developing and integrating APIs to ensure seamless connectivity with the SaaS platform.

 

Methodological Knowledge:

  • ReCiPe Methodology: Familiarity with the ReCiPe impact assessment methodology, including an understanding of midpoint and endpoint indicators.

  • LCA Standards: Knowledge of ISO standards for LCA (ISO 14040/44) and practical application in projects.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to tackle complex problems and find innovative solutions.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team, especially in a collaborative environment with developers and other technical experts.
  • Communication: Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal, to document processes and present findings to the team.

 

Experience:

  • Previous Projects: Prior experience with lifecycle assessment projects or internships in related fields.
  • Research: Involvement in academic research or projects related to environmental impact assessment, sustainability analysis, or similar topics.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in data handling and algorithm development.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to new tools, technologies, and methodologies as needed.
  • Passion for Sustainability: A genuine interest in environmental sustainability and a desire to contribute to impactful projects.
